Underground Philosophy x Museum of Consciousness | Are We Human Yet?

Live in Melbourne

Underground Philosophy is where thought comes to life. The Museum of Consciousness creates interactive, audio-based exhibits for cultivating altered states of consciousness. On the 21st, we invite you to participate with the question: are we human yet?

Underground Philosophy returns at a NEW VENUE on Sunday 21st September.

You are invited to dinner, conversation, and a unique collaboration between Voicecraft and the Museum of Consciousness, founded by Carl Hayden Smith.

Taking place at The Grace Darling (upstairs) in Collingwood, and featuring music, philosophical dialogue, and transformative sonic experiences, we will explore the question: are we human yet?

Here we integrate periods of participation as well as shared attention / audience time, making room for collective dialogue, private conversation and contributions on stage.

Our topic is Are We Human Yet?

Building on several dialogues featuring Carl Hayden Smith on the Voicecraft podcast, we will explore this question through multiple frames of reference, including Carl’s concept of Hyperhumanism.

Hyperhumanism can be seen as an alternative to transhumanism. Hyperhumanism asks us to consider how we can deepen and enrich experience through the mindful use of technology. Transhumanism promises 'transcendence' as an escape from the lack in humanity.

Carl Hayden Smith is Associate Professor of Media in the School of Arts & Creative Industries at UEL and is the former Head of Research and Director of the Learning Technology Research Centre (LTRC) at the Institute for Creativity & Technology, Ravensbourne University London. His research focuses broadly on the relationship between technology and the human condition. Carl is developing ‘Hyperhumanism’ which reframes technology as a catalyst for developing our own innate human abilities. His other research interests include Embodied Cognition, Spatial Literacy, Context Engineering, Umwelt Hacking, Natural Media, Sensory Augmentation, Extended Senses and Embodiment.

Underground Philosophy is where thought comes to life.
