Live in Melbourne
Underground Philosophy is where spectators become participants. Experience live philosophy where audience members have the opportunity to ask questions, contribute to the field of meaning, and engage in conversations that venture through the ideas shaping our time.
On Thursday 20th of August, we will return to Caz Reitop’s for an evening on the topic of Democracy and Integration.
Democracy and Integration
Some say we live in a democracy. And democracy or not, politics today faces perennial questions of integration and segregation, immigration and inequality, and competing plays for power by those who seek it.
How does democracy, 'rule by the people', reckon with the question of who belongs in the polis, the nation, the conversation?
Is democracy vulnerable to oligarchic manipulation? Populist reactivity?
Wherein lies truth amidst conscious and less conscious narrative warfare?
Is the legitimacy of liberal democracies today in terminal decline?
What has become of the dream of democracy?
Runtime
5.30 - Doors (Gather upstairs in the cocktail lounge)
6.00 - Start (take your seats at 5.55pm downstairs in the Vault)

HOW THIS WORKS
In this format of Underground Philosophy, you will take a seat as an audience member in front of a small stage in the underground vault beneath a cocktail bar. Your spoken participation is optional, but throughout, members of the audience, as well as long time members of the Voicecraft network and invited guests, will rotate places in dialogue on stage, facilitated by the host on the evening.
