Live in Melbourne
Underground Philosophy is where thought comes to life. On Sunday December 7 we return to The Grace Darling for an evening inspired by the theme: Beyond Psychedelics.
Featuring live talks, philosophical dialogue, and conversation over dinner, we will explore the theme: Beyond Psychedelics.
Have we been too reductionistic about what understanding psychedelics really entails? Beyond the reductionism of some metaphysical positions and scientific methodologies, what of the contexts which inform what we see and communicate? Are there blindspots in the zeitgeist worth drawing attention to? And what does a maturing relationship with psychedelics really ask of us?
Across a series of talks, dinner, and dialogues, Underground Philosophy will ask: what role can psychedelics play in the future of culture? What does it mean to think about psychedelics from the perspective of ethics and cultural transformation? Finally, we will look to the future and ask: can psychedelics contribute to an expansion and clarification of our horizons as persons and participants in the lifeworld?
Our lineup of contributors on the evening thus far include philosophers Tim Adalin and Cameron Duffy, and the psychiatrist and psychedelic psychotherapist Dr Nigel Strauss.

ABOUT THE SPEAKERS
Dr Nigel Strauss - Psychiatrist, Psychedelic Psychotherapist, Philosopher
Dr Nigel Strauss is a psychiatrist best known for his longstanding interest in Psychedelic Medicines and their safe introduction into Clinical Psychiatric Practice in Australia. He is currently a Consultant Psychiatrist at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne and an Adjunct Clinical Associate within the School of Health Sciences Swinburne University.
He is known as one of one of the founders of contemporary psychedelic research in Australia and has been recognised by Psychedelics.com as one of the “Most Influential People in the world of Psychedelic Science”. Dr Strauss was the co-author of the first contemporary peer reviewed article on psychedelics to be published in Australia, and the co-author of the first Best Practice Clinical Guidelines for The Use of Psychedelic Medicines in Australia and New Zealand (Oct 2020) which was used by the College of Psychiatrists as a reference document.
Tim Adalin - Philosopher and founder of Voicecraft
Tim is a philosopher with a focus on participation and transformation. He is interested in questions of metaphysics: what is; what knowing is; and what it means to care and value. Psychedelics were a prominent part of his early philosophical journey, and have remained part of the constellation of his interests.
In 2017 he founded The Voicecraft Project, an endeavour toward creating contexts where conversation is capable of addressing the heart of what matters in the real of modern life, in touch with the depths as well as the times. He believes that revitalised and reimagined forms of civic participation are crucial to the loving transformation of relationship between psyche, culture, and nature.
Cameron Duffy - Counsellor and Philosopher
Cameron has spent his adult lifetime exploring the nature of being, healing, and human possibility through the transformation of consciousness. He discovered the non-dual potential of conscious experience during his early adult development and has been focused on the scientific, alchemical, and embodied philosophies that bind the nature of consciousness with the meaning making journey. Cam is otherwise dedicated to re-vitalising modern psychiatric culture and psychedelic integration by synergizing an awareness of the sacred with harmonic modes of relationship and practice.
He is the founder of soon-to-launch Apotheosis Academy, which holds the aim of providing the most integrated and transformative education and training experience for the next generation of initiates dedicated to embodied wisdom and the highest practice standards in psychedelic spaces.
